Composition – ‘A Dream’

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Just finished recording a piece that I composed today while it was pouring of rain.
A 2 minute piece with Flute, Piano and Bass. In the recording I am playing the flute, piano and bass, not at the same time ;-)
This is ‘work in progress’ at the moment because I’m not too happy with the acoustics of room I was recording in.
But seein’ as I haven’t shared my music for quite some time, I thought I’d let people hear it so far.

DPS Assignment: Noise

dps_noise
This is my submission for Digital Photography School assignment ‘Noise’. Came up with the idea of doing a Light Painting by drawing a quaver in the air with a small torch. With the camera set to a long exposure I was able to capture the movement.
Drawing with a torch can be quite a challenge and it took quite a few shoots to get it just right.

Enjoy.

Landscape / Woodland photo-walk

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Decided to take a stroll this evening taking pictures along a walk I normally do. This evening I managed to take some great landscapes shots and woodland photos.

IMGP2555The first picture is one that I have taken quite a few times throughout the year because it is always changing.

  • A great tip for taking pictures of landscapes using reflections. The reflection of the trees in the water adds interest to the picture.
  • Another tip is ‘leading line‘, the line of trees and the line of the river.

In Autumn it’s not just about the wonderful colours of trees. In woodland areas or fields you will find fungi. One trick that I have started doing is not taking pictures of them at my height looking down, but without using the viewfinder, placing the camera low down to the ground pointing it towards the mushroom and taking a picture on the ground. It makes for some great shots and I highly recommend it. I set my camera on automatic focus and you don’t have to have a expensive camera to get similar results.

Final picture is one I took when the sun was setting. I was patient and waited for a signet to get closer to me which really makes the shot.

Hope you enjoy my pictures and love to hear your comments.

Remember Remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot…

I decided to go out and take some pictures of the local fireworks.

If you want to take pictures of fireworks, here are some handy tips for you:

  1. Use a Tripod!
  2. Select a low shutter speed (between 1-3 secs)
  3. Select an aperture of f/4
  4. If possible use a shutter cable release.

Moving a Wordpress site

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

ell, it is that time of the year again when I have to renew my hosting. A friend of mine recommend a hosting company which offers more features than what I am currently getting for less money. So I’ve decided to pack my bags as they say, and leave one home to go to another. Now the problem is that I don’t want to waste all the time I’ve spend in developing the site, so I need to move it.

I thought that during this time I would write down a guide on how to backup a wordpress site and then how to deploy it to another host.

The hosting company I have moved to is http://www.tsohost.co.uk/

I am going to refer to my existing hosting as ’source host’ and my new hosting as ‘destination host’ to simplify things. I am also going to be using FTP because both companies do not offer SSH Access with the packages I have.

I recommend that you first buy your destination host package so that while they are sorting out your order and dns (which took ages for me, no fault of tsohost!) you can prepare things on your source host.
