I been playing around today with light photography. Basically I was inspired my an advert I saw for nescafe and thought why not do something similar. There are quite a few articles on the net about drawing with light. I found a good youtube video at the bottom of this article if you want to try it out yourself.
What equipment I used:
- A DSLR camera
- Tripod
- Black material (for background)
- A dark room (Doesn’t have to be completely black)
- A LED light. (I used a red light on a keyring)
- A Glass (from McDonalds, and a good excuse for me to have a Big Mac)
- Black glove
I place the CocaCola Glass on a flat surface with the black material behind it. I set the camera up on a tripod just under a metre away at the same height as the glass.
You then need to set the camera into Manual mode, this is normally represented on the dial as ‘M’.
Set the ISO to 100, shutter speed to 6 seconds and an aperture of around f/32.
I used my 18-55mm kit lens to take this picture.
Once the camera is setup. You place on a black glove and hold the led light in that hand. I used a black glove so that you wouldn’t see a blurred shot of my hand.
Press the shutter and then draw a diagonal line behind the glass, going up and then change the angle at the top. It takes some practice but I found the more pictures you take the better it gets.
And that basically how I did it.
Hope you like it and please add any comments / feedback that you have.
