I have recently discovered a cool Photoshop plugin on Flickr called ‘Fractalius’

You can find the plugin homepage here.

Basically it produces Fractual patterns and acts a filter with an photo you run on it.

Here is an example of what it can do, on the left is the original and on the right is the Fractalius version.

Because I don’t have Photoshop and use GIMP. You can use the GIMP plugin called ‘PSPI’ to load up photoshop plugins into GIMP. Download it here

Below are some more Fractalius photos that I have made:

Since I updated my HTC Hero to the latest version of the Android platform (2.1)

I thought it was about time that I do a review of the top ten applications that I have found and use on a daily basis.

So without due…

10. ASTRO

Great file manager for accessing any file your SD Card. Does simple function like move, copy, delete etc. ASTRO also has another addon module that allows you to access SMB shares (windows network shares) so if your connected to your work’s wireless network you could download documents to your phone from the network.

9. WordPress

Basically allows you to access your WordPress blog from your phone so you can allow comments and also write posts from your phone. Very handy for bloggers always on the move.

8. Twitter

The official Twitter client allows you to post pictures using the Twitpic service and also has reduces long URL address when you paste them into your twitter post.

7. Facebook

Nearly everyone on the planet has heard of Facebook now and it is very popular. The Facebook app for android is not a full featured as the iPhone cousin but it is slowly being updated with new features. Since version 1.2 you can now send messages and pickup messages in facebook.

6. XBMC Remote

A very cool and geekie app for anyone who uses XBMC. Briefly XBMC is a media centre where you can manage all your video, images and photos. The XBMC Remote as the name implies allows you to use your phone as a kind of TV remote control to select, play, stop and change volume.

5. Runkeeper

Great app for people who do alot of fitness. I am not a fitness freak but I am trying to lose weight at the moment and do some cycling at the moment. This is a great app to record your route using GPS, speed and how many calories you burnt. It also uploads it to www.runkeeper.com so you can track your progress over time.

4. Transdroid

Another great program that connects with a service you might have on your network. This time Transdroid allows you to connect to a bit torrent server like Transmission or rtorrent and veiw the progress of your downloads and even start bit torrent downloads.

3. Bedside

Turns your phone is to a large digital display night clock. Reduces the brightness to very low level so that it doesn’t glare in the night. Handy if you don’t have an alarm clock next to your bed. But is annoying because the way the phone is built it is very difficult to stand it up.

2. Autokiller

Basically monitors what applications are running on your phone and detects if an application is misbehaving and then closes it. This can make your phone stop crashing from too many programs running at the same time.

1. Silent Time Pro

This app schedules your phone to go silent at set times. Almost a key feature that should be built into the OS. Stops those times when you recieve an email in the middle of the night and get woken up.

If your interested in learning more about these apps or downloading some. Just search for the name in the Andorid Market.

I’m sorry that there are no screenshot of these apps, this is because I still havn’t got round to learning how to take screenshots on the phone. Once I find out I will most probably be writting a guide here.

This week I have kind of cheated in that I havn’t walked on this location I have cycled, but in my mind a photowalk is recording an outdoors journey whatever means of travel I use.
The reason I started cycling is to get fit and cycling can be better for this than walking, so I been told.
Anyway, the location of this photowalk is between Ringstead and Thrapston.

I have been a bit behind in keeping my photowalks upto date. The last two photowalks have got a flower theme to them. The first being taken at home and then other at my nan’s home. One of the reasons why I have been delayed is that I accidentally inserted the wrong cable into my camera and ended up bending a very small pin within the camera. Annoying to say the least. So I just bought a Kingston Media Card Reader which I highly recommend to any photographer who like me, connects the camera to the computer, downloads the pictures, works on the photos for a length of time and then finds that the camera is still on and the battery has gone flat… you know who you are

Anyway, I am hoping to move away from taking photos of flowers because I think I’ve done that to death now for this year and I need to do some different photowalks and keep my interests fresh.

Till the next time,
