Ubuntu 10.04 Tutorial – How to change titlebar buttons

The final release of Ubuntu 10.04 is just around the corner. I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 since the Alpha 2 testing phase and it is shaping to be a better, faster and easier linux distribution than ever before.

But as the main guys at Canonical has been saying lately. ‘Change is coming’ and they are right. But one change that has really annoyed me and many other Ubuntu users is the decision to change the positioning and and order of the titlebar button (minimise, maximise and close)

When you install Ubuntu 10.04 from scratch you will find that the button are very similar to the Mac OSX.

This post shows you how you can change back to the old way or layout similar to a Windows OS that everyone is familiar with.

Press ALT+F2 and type in gconf-editor

Then go to Apps >Metacity > General

Double click on button layout

Change the text so it reads “:minimize, maximize, close” (minus the quotes)

Close the window and thats it, all done!
